Cincinnati Open: Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the tournament due to THIS reason

Spain’s tennis star Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday withdrew from the Cincinnati Open due to an injury. He is suffering from a lingering right wrist injury that has sidelined him since April.

Earlier, he was hoping to make a comeback to defend his title in the tournament, which would help him as a warm-up for the upcoming US Open, set to be held from later this August.

“We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible,” said the tournament’s director Bob Moran in a statement.

“We wish him the best with his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future,” he added.

Recently, photos and videos of Alcaraz’s went viral on social media platforms, in which he was seen practising on the courts. The photos and videos suggested that he would be ready to play in the Cincinnati Open, which is scheduled to begin from August 11, but the latest update will leave many fans disappointed.

Alcaraz, who follows in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal to be Spain’s latest tennis sensation, will hopefully enter the US Open as the defending champion. The tournament is scheduled to begin from August 23 to September 13.

Carlos Alcaraz’s missed events in the ongoing season

He last played in the Barcelona Open in April, and went on to miss the French Open and the entire grass-court season, including Wimbledon.

Alcaraz had started the year by winning the Australian Open to become the youngest man ever to win all four major titles in tennis. He also won back-to-back Wimbledon titles in 2023 and 2024, beating Novak Djokovic in both finals. He lost in the final last year to Jannik Sinner in another chapter of what shapes up to be a generational rivalry, after the likes of Federer-Nadal.

Recently, Alcaraz, along with Spain’s tennis legend Nadal, were quick to join the national football team’s celebrations after they edged out Argentina to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The duo took to social media to congratulate the World Champions on their historic win.

Spain won their second World Cup title following a hard-fought 1-0 extra-time triumph over the title-holders at MetLife Stadium, where substitute Ferran Torres broke the deadlock in the 106th minute.
