Coco Gauff supports her mother’s direct Instagram post regarding ticket requests

American tennis star Coco Gauff was surprised after discovering her mother had addressed the overwhelming flood of U.S. Open ticket demands from relatives and acquaintances on social media. However, the reigning Cincinnati Open champion fully backed the message.

A day after Candi Gauff shared what she categorised as a ‘blunt but necessary statement’ on Instagram confirming that all available player-box seats were taken, Coco fully supported her mother’s actions.

“Honestly, it was needed, and it was directed towards a few family and friends, People come out of the woodwork. You haven’t spoken to someone for years. They don’t say, ‘Congrats’ or, ‘Happy birthday’ or nothing. Then they’re like, ‘Oh, I’m in New York, can I have 8 tickets to your match in your box, please?” Gauff said Friday.

Gauff, who initially expected her mother’s social media update, featuring a photo of her holding the Cincinnati Open trophy, to be a simple celebratory note, soon realised its actual purpose.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to hook you up with a ticket,” she wrote. “Please make arrangements to purchase a ticket. Side note, never ask for more than 2 tickets. Coco is grown now and she has her own friends that she is honoring (with) tickets for the match. Thank you for your continued support.”

Managing distractions and high ticket demand in New York

Having won the U.S. Open title in 2023, the world No. 4 enters this year’s tournament seeded fourth in the women’s singles draw. As the top-seeded American at Arthur Ashe Stadium, her appearances draw massive crowds, creating ticketing pressure on her inner circle.

By filtering out unreasonable inquiries, Gauff’s parents protect her from unnecessary pre-tournament stress.

“We try our best to accommodate everyone, but some of the requests, you would be surprised at how absurd they are,” Gauff said. “I feel like my mom hit a tipping point because it’s been going on since 15, and they really are my safeguards, and I am lucky they try to make sure no one is hitting up my phone, so I don’t really get many requests.”

Instead of handling continuous inquiries from distant relatives or old schoolmates, Gauff noted her mother chose to publish the notice to clarify why she will no longer be replying to ticket requests.
