A police inspector from Bengaluru and four friends died in a helicopter crash while on a pilgrimage. They had taken off from Badrinath for Dehradun when contact was lost shortly after takeoff. The helicopter was later located with smoke rising from the wreckage in the Hathi Parvat area. Recovery efforts were hindered by darkness and difficult terrain, delaying body retrieval.
