Dhakshineswar Suresh and Sumit Nagal lost their respective singles bouts to leave India trailing 0-2 against Korea after Day 1 of their Davis Cup Qualifier here on Friday.

Dhakshineswar lost 6-3, 4-6, 4-6 to Korea’s top-ranked player Soonwoo Kwon. Nagal then squandered a solid start to lose 6-2, 4-6, 5-7 to Hyon Chung.

Nagal felt the conditions at the Olympic Park Tennis Center made it particularly difficult to break Chung’s defence. “The court conditions were a bit dead.

It’s not easy to hurt your opponent [in these conditions] if they have a very good defence. It gets a bit tough when the ball is old to make it move,” said Nagal.
