Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle express views on modern-day cricket

Former West Indies’ cricketers Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle spoke about the aggressive brand of cricket played by batsmen in the modern-day game.

Bravo feels that batsmen have improved their game, but said that the bowlers should improve and innovate new things to keep up with the changes in cricket.

“The skills of the batters have improved significantly. Now the bowlers have to improve and innovate. They have to significantly upskill to keep pace with the changes in world cricket,” he said in an interaction with Cricketaaa.

The former all-rounder then said that he is glad that his playing days are over.

“The game is changing. It is going to an uphill tempo, and that is good. But the bowlers have to improve and innovate. The way batting is happening across the world, I’m glad my playing days are over,” said Bravo.

Meanwhile, former opening batsman Gayle said that the youngsters have started playing a fearless brand of cricket and are attacking the bowlers from the very first ball.

“I am happy that batters are now breaking records rather than bowlers. The reason is simple – youngsters are now playing fearless cricket. They attack from ball one,” he said.

“The game has changed. Players have changed. The batters are now hungry to score and they play fearless cricket from the very first ball,” added Gayle.

Currently, the West Indies is busy featuring in the five-match T20I series against Team India. Shai Hope-led team is railing the ongoing five-match T20I series by 0-1 against the “Men in Blue”.

Both teams will now clash with each other in the second T20I match, which will be played on October 9 at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.
