Elon Musk hints at renaming ‘SpaceXAI’ to ‘SpaceXSI’:Backs Trump’s ‘super intelligence’ push, says ‘no more AI but SI’

Elon Musk may be preparing yet another name change for his AI business. After US President Donald Trump pushed for the term ‘super intelligence’ instead of ‘artificial intelligence,’ Musk has hinted that SpaceXAI could soon become SpaceXSI. The possible change comes shortly after SpaceXAI was itself given its new name. Musk appeared to support Trump’s idea on X, saying that the term “SI” could be a better way to describe the technology. Musk says ‘no more AI, SI’ Musk shared his view on the terminology on X, writing: No more AI. SI. It’s better. The post was followed by a question from an X user, who asked Musk if there was a possibility of changing the name SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. Musk responded: Yes, we will make that change. Musk’s reply suggests that the company could be renamed SpaceXSI, although it is not yet clear when the change will officially take place. Why does Musk want to replace ‘AI’ with ‘SI’? The possible rebranding comes after Trump began promoting ‘super intelligence’ as a replacement for the more commonly used term ‘artificial intelligence.’ Trump has used several different terms while discussing the technology, including ‘supreme intelligence,’ ‘extreme intelligence,’ and ‘superior intelligence.’ He eventually settled on ‘super intelligence.’ The US president also signed an executive order on September 29 promoting the use of the term and describing the current period as the “era of super intelligence”. According to the White House, the term is intended to better reflect the capabilities of modern AI systems. The argument is that these technologies are no longer limited to simply copying or automating tasks associated with human intelligence. SpaceXAI could become SpaceXSI If Musk follows through with his response, SpaceXAI could soon get another new name. The proposed name, SpaceXSI, would replace the ‘AI’ part with ‘SI,’ referring to “super intelligence”. The timing is notable because the company had only recently been renamed SpaceXAI. A second change could therefore make the branding even more confusing for users who are still getting familiar with the company’s latest name. The idea also reflects Musk’s apparent support for Trump’s push to change the terminology used around AI. ‘Artificial intelligence’ has been around for decades The term ‘artificial intelligence’ is not new. It has been used for decades and is deeply established in the technology industry, academic research, and popular culture. American computer scientist John McCarthy is widely credited with coining the term ‘artificial intelligence’ in 1955. Since then, the phrase has become a standard part of discussions around computer science and emerging technologies. Changing the terminology could therefore take time, particularly because ‘AI’ is now commonly used by technology companies, researchers and consumers around the world. Will people actually call it SpaceXSI? The bigger question is whether the proposed name will actually catch on. Musk has already gone through a major rebranding exercise with Twitter, which he renamed X. Despite the change, many people still refer to the platform by its former name. SpaceXAI could face a similar situation if it becomes SpaceXSI. While Musk has indicated that the change will happen, it remains to be seen whether users and the wider technology industry will adopt the new name. For now, Musk’s response gives a clear hint that SpaceXSI could be the next name for SpaceXAI, following Trump’s push to replace ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘super intelligence.’
