England midfield star Jude Bellingham believes the team’s performance levels dropped a few notches in their FIFA World Cup Group L clash against a gritty Ghana side, which ended in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday after a high-flying 4-2 win over Croatia last week.
“It’s very frustrating. It feels like we’ve got second-game fever again. In most tournaments we’ve played in, it has been the same; a good win in the first game, and then a tougher second one,” said Bellingham.
The Real Madrid star, nevertheless, was gracious in defeat, admitting he ‘did not deserve the Player of the Match award,’ and that Ghana ultimately got the result they wanted. “Credit to Ghana. They got exactly what they played for. We couldn’t break them down,” he said.
England coach Thomas Tuchel felt his team lacked cutting edge, but insisted fans should not lose hope in the team’s quest to win the tournament. “We tried everything, but were not clinical enough. It was difficult today but I hope the fans don’t lose belief. There is a long way to go,” said Tuchel.
Later in the day, in Guadalajara, Mexico, full-backDaniel Munoz helped Colombia break through DR Congo’s stingy defence and advance to the Round of 32 with a 1-0 victory.
