Former umpire Anil Chaudhary feels that players like Team India great Virat Kohli should be there in the game, which prevents it becoming boring.

Speaking on JioHotstar, the former umpire said that he has officiated Kohli’s matches since his teenage years and has known the Delhi-born cricketer for a long time.

“Actually, my advantage with Virat was that I had officiated his matches since childhood, so I have known him for a long time. He doesn’t have any malice. He reacts aggressively sometimes, but if you’re right, he’ll give you a thumbs up too,” he said.

“Between overs, he’ll come over and put a hand around your waist. But he is lively throughout. Players like him should be there, otherwise, the game will get boring,” added Chaudhary.

He then recalled the heated incident that took place between Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in the 2013 edition of the cash-rich league. Chaudhary said that players from the North carry aggression, which is important for them to deliver performances.

“I knew something like that would happen because all of them from the North play with aggression. I have played local cricket too, and our players have always played like this. If they don’t play with that aggression, their performances won’t come out as well. The flavour of the game won’t be there if you put too many restrictions on the players. But there’s a limit, and it shouldn’t be crossed,” said the 61-year-old former umpire.

Virat Kohli’s recent international appearance for Team India

The most recent appearance of Kohli came during the concluded ODI series against England. In the third ODI match against the “Three Lions”, the right-handed batsman delivered a knock of 74 runs off 60 deliveries, which was laced with four boundaries and three maximums.

Along with him, Rohit Sharma and skipper Shubman Gill registered crucial knocks. Despite stunning knocks, the “Men in Blue” suffered a loss by 27 runs at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in the City of Westminster.

With this, the visitors also lost the three-match ODI series by 1-2 against England.
