Hockey World Cup 2026: Here's a look at India's dominance over Pakistan

The stage is set for another intense India-Pakistan clash, but this time it’s not cricket. The countries that share serious political and geographical relations will see their favourite sportsmen take to the hockey field on August 19.

India is set to lock horns with Pakistan in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.

Ahead of the clash, here’s a look at India‘s dominance over Pakistan in the previous 10 years.

2016

In the year 2016, India secured a dominant win by 5-1 against Pakistan in the Azlan Shah tournament in Ipoh. Later, the Indians yet again defeated Pakistan by 3-2 during the Asian Champions Trophy in Kuantan. They then registered a 3-2 win in the same tournament in Kuantan.

2017

During the World League, India defeated Pakistan by 7-1 and secured a win by 6-1 in another match of the same event. Later in the Asia Cup, the Indians secured 3-1 and 4-0 victories in Dhaka.

2018

During the Commonwealth Games, the clash between India and Pakistan ended in a 2-2 draw in Gold Coast. In the same year, India went on to secure victories by 4-0 (Champions Trophy), 2-1 (Asian Games), and 3-1 (Asian Champions Trophy).

2021

In the Asian Champions Trophy, the Indians dominated Pakistan’s hockey team by 3-1 and 4-3 in two different matches.

2022

The Asia Cup’s clash between the arch-rivals in Jakarta ended in a 1-1 draw.

2023

India secured a 4-0 win in the Asian Champions Trophy match in Chennai. The Indians continued to ride on their dominance and registered a 10-2 win in the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

2024

In the Asian Champions Trophy, India handed a defeat to Pakistan by 2-1 in China.

2026

In the Pro League, India won the match by 4-3 and went on to secure another win in the same tournament by 7-1.

In the ongoing FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026, India is in the second place in Pool D. So far, the side has won one match out of the two games. On the other hand, Pakistan is placed in the fourth position with two defeats in as many matches.
