Indian women stun Korea to assure medal; men crash out

India endured a mixed day at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 as the women’s recurve team assured the country’s first medal with a stunning semi-final win over record 10-time Olympic champs South Korea, but the men made an exit after a shock defeat to Bangladesh, here on Thursday. 

India’s campaign also ended in the mixed team event where the duo of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat lost to Brazil in the second round.

The women’s team comprising of veteran Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and teenager Kumkum Mohod defeated a new-look Korean side 5-1 in the semi-finals to set up a gold medal clash against second seed China on Sunday. 

There was embarrassment for the men’s recurve team as veteran Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Yashdeep Bhoge failed to win a single set in a 2-6 defeat to Bangladesh.
