Chasing MI’s target of 244, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a flying start, racing to 92 for no loss in the first six overs.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head found their rhythm from the outset, dominating the MI bowling attack. Abhishek scored 36 off 17 balls, while Head looked in fine touch, smashing 48 off just 19 deliveries.
MI’s Naman Dhir dropped a couple of catches that could have given the hosts a way back into the game. Jasprit Bumrah conceded 28 runs in his two overs during the powerplay.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted a mammoth 243 for 5 in 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Ryan Rickelton leading the charge with a brilliant century.
MI’s new opening pair of Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton raced to a 50-run partnership in just 25 balls, providing a perfect start. Jacks eventually departed for 46 off 22 balls, but Rickelton continued to dominate the SRH bowlers.
Rickelton smashed his maiden IPL hundred, remaining unbeaten on 123 off 55 balls. The left-hander struck 10 fours and eight sixes in his blistering knock, powering MI to a formidable total. He became the third player to score a century for MI this season, after Quinton de Kock and Tilak Varma.
Naman Dhir chipped in with 22 runs, while Hardik Pandya added a quickfire 31 off 15 deliveries at the death to finish the innings strongly.
For SRH, Eshan Malinga was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1 for 29 in his four overs, on what was otherwise a difficult outing for the attack.
