Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee and accumulated one demerit point for using abusive language towards the fourth umpire during his side’s six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Dharamshala on Thursday.

Former MI star Pollard was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials. Specifically, he breached Article 2.3 of the league’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “use of an audible obscenity during a match.”

The incident occurred in the 19th over of the match when Pollard used abusive language towards the fourth umpire.

“Pollard admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee, Pankaj Dharmani,” said the league in an official statement.

Despite the victory, MI`s 8 points from 12 games place them ninth in the standings. The five-time IPL champion is already eliminated from the tournament. MI`s final two games of the season are against the Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on May 24 and the Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on May 20.

MI beat PBKS in Dharamsala

The Mumbai Indians defeated the Punjab Kings in a thriller to damage the home team`s qualification chances. Tilak Varma emerged as the star of the show for MI, scoring an unbeaten 75.

Chasing 201, MI got off to a flying start with Ryan Rickelton scoring a quickfire 48 runs, while his opening partner Rohit Sharma chipped in with 25 runs.

MI lost a flurry of wickets in the middle overs, but Tilak Varma scored a match-winning 75 to guide MI home. Will Jacks was at the crease with the southpaw as they guided MI home to give them their 4th win of the season.

Varma`s knock included six fours and six maximums as he timed his innings to perfection, accelerating in the death overs to take MI to 2 points.

Earlier, having been put to bat first, PBKS scored 201, largely due to a late flourish from Azmatullah Omarzai and an early onslaught from Prabhsimran Singh.

Shardul Thakur took 4 wickets for the visitors, while Deepak Chahar chipped in with 2 wickets.
