The Delhi Capitals scored a mammoth 264 runs in their 20 overs against the Punjab Kings. KL Rahul was the star with the bat for the hosts as he rolled back the years and scored an amazing 152 runs to put DC in a commanding position in the game.
DC started their innings with a bang rasing to 28 runs in the first 2 overs, before Pathum Nissanka was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. What followed later was absolute carnage by the DC batters.
KL Rahul scored an amazing century, dominating the PBKS bowlers from the start. The Indian star scored his sixth century in IPL, and this was also his fastest in just 47 balls. His innings included 16 fours and 9 sixes. Rahul looked back to his best and formed a record partnership with Nitish Rana.
KL Rahul became only the third player after Chris Gayle and Brendan McCullum to score over 150 runs in IPL.
Nitish Rana scored 91 runs in just 44 balls, providing perfect support for KL Rahul. KL Rahul and Rana stitched together a partnership of 220 runs in 95 balls to take DC to a massive score of 264 runs.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Axar Patel said that he would look to bat first. The DC skipper admitted that he wants to put a total on the board.
“We will bowl first. It looks a bit dry, and obviously it’s a day game, and you know it’s quite hot as well. So we’re thinking of putting up a good total first and then trying to defend it. (Do you think it will get quite slow later on?) Yes, from the looks of it, it seems like it will slow down a bit later, and the bowlers might get some help as well. We are playing the same team.” Axar Patel said.
