Karnataka HC rules Kodagu stay owner’s arrest in rape case illegal, orders Rs 5 lakh relief

The Karnataka High Court awarded five lakh rupees compensation to a homestay owner. His arrest in a rape case filed by an American guest was deemed illegal. The court stated his arrest was an affront to personal liberty and constitutional rights. Police acted in violation of Supreme Court arrest guidelines and safeguards. The homestay owner was unlawfully detained and traumatized by the investigation.
