Karnataka’s Kharif sowing limps at 43% of target

Karnataka faces a significant sowing deficit, with only 43% of the kharif target met due to a patchy monsoon, particularly impacting dryland farmers. While cereals and pulses lag, cotton and sugarcane growers are ahead. Northern irrigated regions show strong progress, but drought-like conditions loom for rainfed areas if July rainfall remains scarce. Experts warn of a potential drought if the situation doesn’t improve.
