In the IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a loss by two wickets at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Raipur.
During the match, MI`s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in his spell of four overs, where he conceded 20 runs.
Speaking about him, former Team India cricketer Anil Kumble said that Bumrah is the number one bowler and teams will depend on him. He also said that the team`s batting department needs to step up if their bowlers are going through a lean patch.
“Jasprit Bumrah is the number one bowler, not just for Mumbai Indians, but for any team he plays for, and naturally, teams will depend on him. But when your bowlers are not doing well, then your second skill set, the batting, has to compensate a little, and that is not happening for Mumbai Indians,” he said on JioStar.
“They are struggling in that department too. There is a visible lack of confidence, especially in the middle order. If you don`t show intent and fearlessness in this batting line-up, then where will you show it? If any team can come back from a situation like this, it is them, they have done it in the past. But I think the manner of these losses is the major concern. Earlier, when they had slow starts to a season, they would still put up a fight and lose close games, but this time around, they are getting beaten comfortably, and that is worrying,” added Kumble.
Following the loss, the “Men in Blue and Gold” are officially knocked out of the playoff race of the league`s ongoing edition.
