In the Commonwealth Games 2026, superstar Neeraj Chopra clinched a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw. Yashvir Singh also won a bronze medal in the marquee event.

Following the achievements, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a congratulatory post for both athletes on his official social media handle.

He then shared a post for Yashvir. “Congratulations to Yash Vir Singh for winning the Bronze in the Men’s Javelin event! He produced an impressive throw, reflecting his zeal and dedication. Neeraj Chopra registered his season’s best throw of 85.83 m in his second attempt, which helped him finish in second place. His throw in the ongoing edition of the Commonwealth Games was slightly better than the throw he produced in the Doha Diamond League. He registered a throw of 85.69 m in Doha and finished fourth in the competition.

The 28-year-old athlete returned from a lower back injury that has troubled him since September last year. The injury delayed his return until the Diamond League in Doha. It was his second Commonwealth Games, having won gold in the 2018 edition in Gold Coast.

On the other hand, Yashvir, on his Commonwealth Games debut, took everyone by surprise when he registered his personal best throw of 85.41 m. He tasted success in his sixth and final attempt as Indians secured second and third podium finishes. His best before the Commonwealth Games was 83. 72 m.

He was in seventh spot after the penultimate round with his third attempt measuring 81.33m before producing a memorable 85.41m throw to join Chopra on the podium.
