Neeraj Chopra opens up about battling fitness issues

Indian javelin throw superstar Neeraj Chopra opened up about the fitness issues he has been going through for close to a year. He said that the previous 10 months have tested him in ways that he never expected.

An adductor muscle injury along with a few other niggles had hampered the 28-year-old athlete.

“There are throws that travel far, and then there are moments that carry the weight of an entire journey. The past 10 months has tested me in ways I never expected. Recovering from multiple injuries, rebuilding my body, finding my rhythm again, and learning to be patient when all I wanted was to compete. I was training every day without knowing if I will even have a season to compete this year,” he said in a video on Instagram.

Chopra then expressed gratitude to his physiotherapist and coach for believing in him and helping him take up the sport.

“To be back competing at this level feels good. None of this would have been possible on my own. I’m deeply grateful for the people who never stopped believing in me. My physio, Ishaan (Marwaha) ji who has been by my side every step of the recovery, helping me get back to doing what I love. My coach, Jai (Chaudhary), who has been with me since the very first time I picked up a javelin. My family, that always stand strong with me no matter what the circumstances are. The season continues, one step at a time,” he said.

In the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2026, he bagged a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event. Chopra will now gear up to compete in the Lausanne Diamond League, which is scheduled to be held on August 21.

The event will see a star-studded men’s javelin throwers take the field, which will also include the likes of recently-crowned Commonwealth Games 2026 champion Rumesh Pathirage from Sri Lanka.

In fact, the fans will witness five javelin throwers from the Commonwealth Games 2026 take part in the event.
