The company has introduced a feature called ‘Locked Chats’ in ChatGPT. With this feature, you can keep selected conversations separate from your regular chat history. To open these chats, you will need to enter a 4-digit PIN. On mobile phones, you can also use Face ID or other available biometric options to unlock them. Separate Folder: Locked chats will appear in a separate folder. Warning: Resetting your PIN may delete your chats! 1. Private Chats Will Stay Separate Locked conversations will not show up in your regular chat history, pinned chats, or chat list. They will be stored in a separate folder named ‘Locked Chats’. 2. Unlocking with PIN or Biometrics To view locked chats, you must enter a 4-digit PIN. You can also use biometric authentication (like Face ID or fingerprint) available on iPhones and Android phones. 3. Use on Mobile Devices You can use this feature alongside Voice Mode on iPhones and Android phones. However, Codex conversations cannot be locked using this feature. Important Warnings Limitations Risk of Data Loss: If you reset your ‘Locked Chats’ PIN for any reason, all your locked conversations and files uploaded to that section may be permanently deleted. This action cannot be undone, and OpenAI support will not be able to recover that content. Not End-to-End Encrypted: It is important to understand that ‘Locked Chats’ does not mean end-to-end encryption. This feature is mainly designed to protect your privacy if someone else physically holds or uses your phone. Data Policies Remain the Same: Locking a chat does not automatically change OpenAI’s data retention policies or model training settings. Merely locking a chat does not determine how long OpenAI keeps your data or whether it is used to train AI models. Limitations: Locked chats may still have certain limitations.
