The government has made BIS registration mandatory for smartphone screen guards. The new decision will directly affect poor-quality screen guards sold in the market. Companies will now be allowed to sell them only after they pass BIS testing. The central government has taken this step to improve the safety of smartphone users and the quality of screen guards. New rules to take effect across the country from 1 April 2027 According to a ministry notification, the new BIS standards set for smartphone screen guards will come into force across the country from 1 April 2027. This means that after 2027, the sale of screen guards without BIS registration and without meeting the prescribed standards will be prohibited. How will consumers and companies be affected? Benefits for consumers: They will no longer have to rely on cheap, duplicate and easily breakable screen guards available in the market. The display will remain protected because of the prescribed quality standards. Condition for companies: Companies will have to get their products tested at a BIS laboratory. The import and local production of screen protectors without the BIS mark will be banned.
