After moving out of Goa and making its debut in Mumbai in 2025, Sunburn Festival has announced its 19th edition, which is set to take place in the Maximum City, later this year in December. However, there is a change, one that fans have been hoping for, and that is a change in the venue.
This edition, Sunburn Festival 2026 will take place on December 18 and 19 with the popular Indian electronic music festival moving to the heart of the entertainment capital, Mahalaxmi Racecourse, which has been regarded as one of Mumbai’s most iconic and centrally located live event venues.
Change in venue
Interestingly, the move is quite familiar because the venue has previously hosted Avicii’s early India performance in 2011 and the iconic Swedish House Mafia in 2013 to Martin Garrix`s indelible show in 2016 and Keinemusik’s recent spectacle this year.
Change in format
Alongside the venue, Sunburn Festival 2026 will introduce a reimagined format. This edition will be distilled into a more concentrated, high-energy two-day experience, designed to deliver sharper programming and a more immersive flow of power-packed performances.
The celebration will culminate in a massive closing party at NSCI Dome on December 20, extending the experience into a high-impact finale after the headliner’s crescendo at the Racecourse.
Registrations are now open on BookMyShow. Exclusive pre-sale of tickets for Rupay Credit Card holders goes live on May 14 at 12 noon, for registered users on May 16 at 12 noon. While General On-Sale of tickets for the festival opens for all will start on May 18 at 12 noon.
Theme for Sunburn 2026
In 2026, the festival takes on a new dimension with the unveiling of its theme, ‘Awaken the Core’, which aims to reflect the festival`s years of building scale, pushing boundaries and redefining live experiences.
It began as an introduction to global electronic music in 2007 and has steadily evolved into a tradition that thousands return to year after year.
Insights from a survey conducted with fans that attended Sunburn Festival 2025 reveal that nearly 81 per cent of respondents were driven by the festival’s unparalleled vibe and energy and drawn to its cutting-edge visual and stage production.
The festival’s pull extends far beyond its host city as close to 50 per cent respondents travelled from outside Mumbai as ardent fans of performing artists and the genre. The survey further revealed that Sunburn Festival remains a shared experience, with over 56 per cent of attendees choosing to experience it alongside friends.
Speaking on the announcement, Karan Singh, CEO, Sunburn, said, “The move to Mumbai has played a significant role in this evolution, allowing us to reach new audiences while strengthening our core community, representing everything that has been building over the years – a moment where the festival’s identity, energy and vision come together in a way that is ready to stand alongside the world’s most iconic music festivals. As we enter our 19th edition, every decision – from moving to a venue like Mahalaxmi Racecourse to reimagining the festival format – has been made with a clear focus on enhancing how fans experience the festival.”
