Sobo Mumbai Falcons (SMF) won the inaugural Women’s T20 Mumbai League, defeating Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs (ATMWS) by 25 runs in a low-scoring final at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Put into bat, SMF posted 124-6, their lowest total while batting first. However, it was a good enough score as ATMWS collapsed to 99.

After the win, SMF captain Sayali Satghare said: “It was a fighting total. The wicket was slower and already turning when we batted. The two wickets we took in the Powerplay were crucial and we kept pressure on them. Our spinners were very good. We bowled well, fielded well and that made it easy for us.”

ATMWS were well on their way to a successful chase following the start provided by captain Humairaa Kaazi (23) and the league’s highest run-getter Sanika Chalke (18). They dealt in fours, racing to 34-0 in four overs.

But, with Kaazi hitting a full toss straight to the cover fielder in teenaged left-arm spinner Swara Jadhav’s (2-14) first over, the ATMWS slide began.

Sanika top-edged a sweep to point off Mumbai off-spinner Janhvi Kate (3-21) in the sixth over. Then, Kate clean bowled Fatima Jaffer in her next over as ATMWS crumbled.

Earlier, SMF, after losing two wickets in the Powerplay, were buoyed by the third-wicket partnership of 62 between Simran Shaikh (50) and Sarika Koli (24).
