SpaceX delays ‘Starship Flight 13’ launch again:World’s largest rocket liftoff deferred to 25 July due to unfavourable weather
SpaceX has once again postponed the launch of its Starship Flight 13 test mission, extending the wait for what is expected to be another crucial milestone in the development of the world’s largest and most powerful rocket. The mission was originally scheduled to lift off on July 16, but the countdown was aborted in its final moments before launch. SpaceX later rescheduled the flight for July 24, but unfavourable weather conditions forced another delay. The company is now targeting July 25 for the next launch attempt, subject to favourable weather and final technical checks.
Following the delay, SpaceX has rescheduled the launch for Friday, July 24, at 6:45 p.m. EDT (10:45 p.m. GMT), or 4:15 a.m. IST on Saturday, July 25, from Starbase, Texas. Announcing the delay on social media, SpaceX said: Now targeting Friday, July 25 for Starship’s thirteenth flight test, due to weather.
The company explained that weather conditions play a key role in one of the mission’s primary objectives, capturing high-quality footage of Starship’s heat shield during ascent.
SpaceX added that improved visibility is essential for engineers to analyse the performance of the spacecraft’s upgraded heat shield during flight. Multiple upgrades for the rocket Starship Flight 13 is expected to test several improvements to the fully reusable launch system, which is central to SpaceX’s long-term plans for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The rocket has undergone multiple upgrades since previous test flights, and engineers will closely monitor its performance throughout the mission. The latest postponement follows an aborted launch attempt earlier this month, highlighting the company’s cautious approach to testing. SpaceX has repeatedly stated that collecting valuable engineering data is more important than launching under less-than-ideal conditions. If weather conditions cooperate, the next launch attempt on July 25 will mark another major step in SpaceX’s efforts to develop a fully reusable heavy-lift rocket capable of carrying astronauts and large payloads on future deep-space missions.
