IPL 2026: Cooper Connolly reflects on his explosive 87-run knock against LSG

In the IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab Kings (PBKS) emerged victorious by 54 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
During the match, Punjab`s batsmen showcased exceptional skills with the willow. Facing just 37 deliveries, Priyansh Arya smashed 93 runs, laced with four boundaries and nine maximums. Cooper Connolly also struck 87 runs in 47 balls, with the help of eight boundaries and seven maximums.
Speaking about batting alongside Arya, Connolly heaped praise by saying that he was in awe to witness exuberant shots from the Haryana-born cricketer.
“The wicket was pretty nice. Priyansh and Prabhsimran sort of go about their business the way they do, and Priyansh has done it over the last couple of years and been successful at it. I was at the other end just in awe a little bit there, because I couldn`t get on strike, just enjoyed watching him bat,” he said.
The 22-year-old cricketer also said that they keep trying to play good cricket shots and put pressure on the opposition`s bowlers.
“I think the game doesn`t change too much when you`re batting first. We`re just trying to play good cricket shots, put the pressure on the bowling attack, and take advantage of the loose balls, and I think we did that tonight,” said Connolly.
IPL 2026, Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants: Match summary
Batting first, PBKS posted a massive total of 254 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Arya and Connolly`s knock was the highlight of the first innings. Later, Marcus Stoinis accumulated 29 runs in 16 balls, including two boundaries and the same number of maximums.
LSG`s Prince Yadav and M Siddharth bagged two wickets each. Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan also chipped in with one wicket each.
Later in the second essay of the game, the Super Giants managed to score 200 runs by losing five wickets in 20 overs.
Opening batsmen Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni registered scores of 40 and 35 runs, respectively. Captain Rishabh Pant also played a knock of 43 runs off 23 balls, including a boundary and four maximums.
Aiden Markram, who was pushed down the order, garnered 42 runs in 22 balls, with the help of three boundaries and the same number of maximums.
Marco Jansen returned with the figures of two wickets for 37 runs in four overs. Arshdeep Singh, Impact Player Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged one wicket each.
