In the IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a victory by 54 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
So far, the Kings, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, are unbeaten in the tournament. Having played six games, they have secured five wins with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.420 and 11 points. One of their matches was abandoned.
Their skipper, Shreyas, said that he is determined to clinch the elusive title this year. He also said that the entire team need to think in the same direction to make it happen.
“Whenever I play in any tournament, I play to win. For me, winning is everything; there is no substitute. Even if it doesn’t happen, that is fine, I can accept it and move on. But whatever I do, whatever my efforts are for, it is for the trophy. I play to win. Whatever tournaments and opportunities come up next, I will definitely want to win them. For this year, the manifestation is to win the IPL. I just want to put it out there in the universe that I want to lift the trophy,” he said.
“There are going to be small steps to reach that stage. It will definitely take a team effort and everyone has to think in that direction; only then can you achieve that,” added Iyer.
IPL 2026, Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants: Match summary
Batting first, PBKS posted a massive total of 254 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly`s knock was the highlight of the first innings. Later, Marcus Stoinis accumulated 29 runs in 16 balls, including two boundaries and the same number of maximums.
LSG`s Prince Yadav and M Siddharth bagged two wickets each. Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan also chipped in with one wicket each.
Later in the second essay of the game, the Super Giants managed to score 200 runs by losing five wickets in 20 overs.
Opening batsmen Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni registered scores of 40 and 35 runs, respectively. Captain Rishabh Pant also played a knock of 43 runs off 23 balls, including a boundary and four maximums.
Aiden Markram, who was pushed down the order, garnered 42 runs in 22 balls, with the help of three boundaries and the same number of maximums.
Marco Jansen returned with the figures of two wickets for 37 runs in four overs. Arshdeep Singh, Impact Player Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged one wicket each.
