One of the co-founders and co-owners of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, stated that he anticipates enjoyment and some excellent cricket being played in the tournament. Additionally, he stated that he wanted the ETPL to grow into one of the most eagerly awaited cricket tournaments in the future.
A recently established franchise-based cricket competition, the ETPL aims to increase cricket`s appeal and reach throughout Europe. International celebrities like Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Mitchell Santner, Liam Livingstone, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, and others are anticipated to appear.
The ETPL is a newly launched franchise-based cricket tournament aimed at expanding the reach and popularity of cricket across Europe. International stars like Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Mitchell Santner, Liam Livingstone, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, and others are anticipated to appear.
The ETPL has already attracted several prominent names from the worlds of cricket, business, and global investment through its ownership structure. The tournament is scheduled to be played from August 26 to September 20, 2026.
In an interview with ANI, Abhishek Bachchan expressed his hope that the ETPL will provide high-calibre, entertaining cricket while becoming one of the most anticipated events on the cricket calendar in the coming years.
“The expectation, I believe, should be one, to have a world-class cricketing tournament in Europe. And I`m very happy to note that with the kind of people that have already been signed on in terms of players, I think that promise hopefully should come true. When you have some of the best cricketing talent that`s going to come and play, I think it kind of speaks a lot about the kind of intention that we have of what we`re trying to achieve.” Abhishek said.
ETPL set for a grand debut
Six city-based teams, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, and Rotterdam, will participate in 33 ETPL games.
Rahul Dravid owns the Dublin team, while Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund back the Belfast team. The owners of the Edinburgh franchise are Rachel Wiseman, Nathan McCullum, and Kyle Mills. In the meantime, Chris Gayle and Vipul Aggarwal own the Glasgow team.
Steve Waugh, Jamie Dwyer, and Tim Thomas hold the Amsterdam franchise, while Jonty Rhodes, Faf du Plessis, Glashin, and Samir Shah control the Rotterdam franchise, with Madhukar Shree acting as Managing Partner.
