Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over rate in their win against the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.
“Delhi Capitals (DC) Captain Axar Patel has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during the match, Match No. 55 of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala,” said an IPL media advisory.
“As this was his team`s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL`s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it added.
DC stun PBKS to keep playoff hopes alive
Axar and David Miller scored counter-attacking fifties to help DC defeat Punjab Kings by three wickets and keep their slim Playoff chances alive.
DC pulled off a stunning three-wicket victory over PBKS in a high-stakes IPL 2026 clash at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Chasing a daunting target of 211, DC overcame a rocky start to complete the comeback with an over to spare.
The chase began poorly as PBKS seamers Arshdeep Singh and Yash Thakur exploited the swing and bounce of the surface. DC’s top order crumbled to 47/3 within the Powerplay, further sliding to 74/4 by the ninth over. However, captain Axar Patel led from the front with a calculated 56 off 33 balls, smashing eight boundaries and two sixes to shift the momentum.
Axar found a perfect partner in David Miller, who scored an explosive 51 off 28 balls, featuring four towering sixes, dismantling the PBKS spin attack. Their vital 64-run partnership provided the backbone of the innings.
While PBKS posted a strong 210/5, their defence fell apart due to poor bowling, dropped catches, and costly misfields. Following a late cameo by Madhav Tiwari, DC successfully crossed the line, leaving PBKS to rue their missed opportunities in a thrilling encounter.
Currently seventh on the points table, DC next takes on Rajasthan Royals at home on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings will face the Mumbai Indians next.
