Asian Games 2026: Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna set up all-Indian squash QF

Indian squash prodigy Anahat Singh advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

Seeded third, Anahat launched her campaign in style by defeating Singapore’s Au Yeong Wai Iynn in straight games with a 3-0 scoreline (11-4, 11-5, 11-7) to secure her spot in the next round. 

Joining her in the last eight, compatriot Tanvi Khanna delivered a dominant performance to beat Singapore’s Au Yeong Wai Yhann 3-1 (5-11, 11-4, 11-5, 13-11), setting up an exciting all-Indian quarterfinal encounter with Anahat. Notably, the squash champion will get a direct qualification to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with the sport making its Olympic debut two years from now.

India confirm medal in Wushu and Badminton

Roshibina’s win brought India its 14th medal of the ongoing multi-sport event, adding a sixth silver alongside one gold and seven bronze medals.

In the mixed doubles draw, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar booked their quarterfinal berth after prevailing over fellow compatriots Suraj Chand and Shameena Riaz.

Earlier in the day, the men’s double sculls duo of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won a bronze medal. The duo crossed the finish line with a time of 6:13.25, finishing just 3.48 seconds behind China’s gold medalists Yi Xudi and Nie Yide, and 2.76 seconds shy of the silver-winning pair Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin.
Satnam and Salman held the second position through the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m splits before slipping in the home stretch, having briefly trailed the leading Chinese boat by just half a second.

Meanwhile, in the men’s single sculls final, Balraj Panwar narrowly missed a podium finish, taking fourth place. Balraj held the second spot at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m markers before being overtaken in the final 500 meters by Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama. 

Earlier, Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty faltered against higher-ranked opponents as the Indian men’s team signed off with a bronze medal after going down 1-3 to rivals China in the semifinals of the Asian Games. India had won the silver medal at the last edition in Hangzhou in 2023, where they had lost to China in the final.
