The attacking trio of Deepika Sehrawat, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, and Navneet Kaur all scored a hat-trick as the Indian women’s hockey team thrashed Indonesia 17-1 to secure their second straight Pool B victory at the Asian Games.

The 22-year-old Deepika (8th, 28th, 40th minutes), who previously scored eight times in India’s opening 19-0 win against Uzbekistan, converted three penalty corners. Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (15th, 20th, 38th) added three goals, while Navneet struck in the 35th, 56th, and 57th minutes to complete her hat-trick.

Further contributions came via double strikes from Sunelita Toppo (11th, 30th), Lalremsiami (12th, 16th), and Sakshi Rana (25th, 57th). Captain Salima Tete (35th) and Ishika Chaudhary (36th) also scored a goal apiece. Innes Aditiya scored Indonesia’s consolation goal in the 32nd minute. 

Following their 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Sunday, the Indian team established an early lead. Navneet saw a fourth-minute penalty stroke turned away by the Indonesian goalkeeper; however, Deepika broke the deadlock in the eighth minute by converting a penalty corner.

India set to face Thailand on Wednesday

Sunelita doubled the lead three minutes later off a Neha pass, before Lalremsiami put away a rebound from a Deepika drag-flick. Sakshi Rana set up Rutuja for India’s fourth goal, and Lalremsiami quickly added her second goal.

Rutuja then stretched to redirect another Neha pass into the net. Sakshi capitalised on a rebound to make it 7-0 in the 27th minute, followed by Deepika’s second penalty corner conversion. Sunelita redirected Navneet’s penalty corner effort to hand India a 9-0 advantage at the halftime whistle.

Two minutes into the second period, Indonesia converted a penalty corner through Innes Aditiya to get on the board. Salima Tete responded immediately with a goal for the Indian side. 

India maintained their dominance and piled on the pressure against the Indonesian backline to wrap up another high-scoring win as they chase the gold medal required to secure automatic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Indian women’s team have been dominant in both their matches so far, scoring 36 goals and conceding just once. The in-form team will return to action against Thailand on Wednesday.
