Coco Gauff credits family for resurgence ahead of US Open title defence

Two-time American Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff has rediscovered her form after a crushing US Open exit in the fourth round last year against Naomi Osaka, and credited her resurgence to spending more time interacting with her family, especially her younger brother Cameron, 13.

In a recent interview with US magazine People, Gauff said: “Have you seen those memes where it’s like, ‘Who can you call right now for a billion dollars?’ That’s definitely my younger brother, Cameron. I know he’ll always pick up. I’ve been calling my family a lot these days, bothering them when I’m bored and they’ve always been picking up the call. I’m so grateful for them.”

In addition to the 22-year-old’s family being her support system, she has also changed her serve and now feels “really happy and normal to be on the court instead of stressing out like last year.” 

Gauff has made a strong start to this year’s US Open, beating Zeynep Sonmez in 6-3, 6-4 in Rd 1, and will be looking to win her second consecutive title on Tour after clinching the Cincinnati Masters last month.
