Customs slaps Rs 271 crore penalty on Harshavardini Ranya, 3 others in gold smuggling case
Customs authorities in Bengaluru imposed significant penalties on Ranya Rao and three associates for gold smuggling. The penalties amounted to over Rs 270.8 crore for their involvement in illicit activities. Authorities seized more than 14kg of gold from Ranya after her arrival from Dubai, and evidence linked her to prior smuggling operations. Searches at her residence uncovered cash and valuables related to the smuggling activities.
