The 13-day international conference, organised by Konkani cultural organisation Mandd Sobhann as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, will continue till November 15.
It seeks to bring Konkani-speaking people from across the world on a common platform, the organisation said, in a statement.
In his inaugural speech, Goa Chief Minister Sawant pledged support to the development of Konkani language and culture saying, “Konkani language and culture is intertwined and has great qualities of sustenance of the ethos and values of the Konkani speaking people”
A key highlight is an attempt to set a Guinness World Record under the title ‘Konkani Nirontari Sonsar Sorosori’ (Konkani continuously till the end of the world), it said.
According to the organisation, as part of the attempt, a continuous 12-day singing marathon is being held in which 300 singing groups will perform by rotation. Over 6,700 singers from different parts of the world are expected to take part, including 53 groups from Goa.
The marathon aims to present more than 4,500 songs representing various Konkani dialects, communities and musical traditions without repeating any song or singer.
