The Chennai Super Kings get a statement win against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. CSK defeated rivals MI by 103 runs to go above them in the table. The visitors scored 207 runs in the first innings to set up the win for Chennai Super Kings.

In the second innings, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma stitched together a partnership to give MI hope, but the target was just too much to chase. The duo departed, and MI`s batting line-up collapsed to give CSK an easy win.

Speaking after the defeat, Hardik Pandya admitted that the batting let the team down. The MI skipper was disappointed with the team`s overall performance and hoped to mount a comeback.

“I think that in the powerplay, losing that early wicket is always going to be tricky. You are always chasing the game and we could not cope up after that. (Did the pitch change in any way?) I would not say that. I’m not someone who would like to say that. They batted well, they scored 207. It was the same track, it is the same soil. We should have just batted well. (The spinners got the ball to grip, didn’t they?) Yes, I think even our spinners bowled pretty well. It’s just that Sanju played an outstanding knock. At the same point of time, their batters kept coming and kind of chipping in and got them to a decent total. I think more than a decent total on that track. For us to chase this down, we needed to have a good powerplay and the momentum had to be with us, but that could not happen. (Are there frustrations to lose at home again?) I think that will be the chat where we will go back to again, go forward and figure out what we need to do. We have a couple of days. We just need to see what we can do best.” Hardik Pandya said.

Sanju Samson scored a century to take CSK to 207 runs in the first innings

Chennai Super Kings got off to a flying start and raced to 73 runs for the loss of 2 wickets against the Mumbai Indians after the first six overs. Sanju Samson scored a quickfire 35 in the powerplay as MI bowlers struggled to find line and length.

Sanju Samson continued his batting momentum despite wickets falling around him and scored 101 runs in 54 balls. The Indian star delivered at the Wankhede Stadium yet again to take CSK to a competitive total of 207 in 20 overs.

The Indian star reached his century with the last ball of the innings and got a standing ovation from the Wankhede crowd. With this win, the Chennai Super Kings go above the Mumbai Indians in the table and keep their chances of qualifying for the playoffs alive.
