Mumbai has a new rooftop bar in Borivali, and here's all you need to know
[[{“value”:”
Mumbai continues to see new restaurants and bars open every other week and most often than not it is in Bandra or South Mumbai, but over time Mumbai’s foodies are seeing a shift as restaurants open in neighbourhoods that were previously not considered hotspots including the likes of Dadar, which saw a new microbrewery and taproom open, along with other places in Santacruz too.
Over time the western suburbs have seen a lot more openings, and after Santosham opening in Malad earlier this month, there is a new bar that has found its home in Borivali.
SOCIAL Borivali has opened as a rooftop bar in Sky City Mall in Borivali East, adding to the number of restaurants opening within the premises, among the likes of Mitti Cafe that also opened earlier this October.
The new space takes its cue from the many worlds that make Borivali what it is including its proximity to the forest, its relationship with the coast and jetties, its East Indian roots, Gujarati influences, old settlements and an ever-changing urban landscape.
Interiors inspired by nature and SGNP
Popularly known for I.C. Colony and Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), or Borivali National Park, as it is locally known, the newest SOCIAL in the city is a rooftop bar, inspired by the national park, and celebrates it through a unique lens.
The interiors of Borivali SOCIAL build on the idea of ‘Preserving What We Might Forget’, inspired by the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and Borivali’s unique relationship with Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Imagined as a playful archive of the natural world that exists alongside the neighbourhood, the space brings together botanical impressions, preserved specimens reinterpreted as art, archival drawers documenting Borivali’s butterflies, X-ray-inspired tables and an interactive digital forest installation. These elements move between observation and imagination, preserving not the species themselves, but the stories, forms and ecological connections that can often go unnoticed as the city changes around them. The result is a space that turns Borivali’s natural heritage into something to discover, interact with and remember.
Food and drink
The menu at Borivali SOCIAL brings together much-loved favourites such as Fully Re-loaded Nachos, Bombay Bhelpuri Salad, Paneer Makhani Biryani, China Box and more, alongside a selection of coffee, mocktails and matcha too.
The signature cocktails include the likes of the Banarasi Patiala, LLIIT and Grenade cans adding to the mix of food and drink.
How to get there
While you can simply take the Western Railway line train to Borivali station, you can also take the Red Line (Line 7) and get off at Devipada Metro Station that also opens directly into the mall.
