Amazon to provide NATO with a secure cloud computing service:This will prevent data leaks make information-sharing safe
Amazon has made its cloud service available to all 32 NATO member states from Tuesday. The initiative is aimed at making it easier for member countries to share sensitive government and defence documents and work together on military planning. This will prevent data leaks and keep information sharing secure. Amazon has already played a major role in the cloud computing systems of US intelligence agencies and the military. A secure cloud facility is a primary requirement for intelligence analysis, military logistics and defence planning using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The challenge of intelligence sharing will be resolved Until now, sharing intelligence among NATO countries was difficult because of differing security standards and rules. However, using an approved commercial cloud solution for all 32 countries will make it easier over time to exchange information rapidly and plan together. Under the new system, all allied countries will be able to share some of NATO’s classified information with one another. However, this will be limited to NATO Restricted-level information, which is NATO’s least secret or lowest-level classified information. Top-secret data will not be shared for now Planning for NATO’s major and confidential military operations is carried out at highly secure levels (‘secret’ and ‘top secret’). The internet or cloud services cannot be used immediately for such sensitive work because of the risk of data theft. However, Amazon says that all 32 NATO member countries have now approved its cloud services at the most basic security level. This means that, going forward, the armed forces of member countries will find it easier and safer to securely store more classified and sensitive information on the cloud. What is NATO and what is the challenge of protecting its data?
