The Mumbai Indians were struggling at 53 runs for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of the powerplay against RCB. Bhuvneshwar Kumar starred with the ball for the defending champions as he took 3 wickets in the powerplay.
Ryan Rickelton was the first one to be dismissed as he was caught by Rajat Patidar at mid off. Rohit Sharma departed next after being caught behind by a Bhuvneshwar Kumar knuckle ball, before Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
Rohit Sharma raced to 22 runs in just 10 balls, attacking Josh Hazlewood before edging one behind to the wicket keeper.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Rajat Patidar was happy to bowl first. The RCB captain will hope his team can bounce back after 2 consecutive defeats.
“We will bowl first. Pretty obvious, the surface is good and pretty hard. But we will try to get them as early as possible and go for the chase. Conditions are not unfamiliar to be honest. We are going with the same team. Yes, we had a couple of losses but it`s important to be in the present and play on your strengths. So we will be focusing more on ourselves rather than on other teams. (Areas to be better at today) I don`t think that there are one or two particular areas. Wherever it is. If we play in the powerplay or if we play after the powerplay we will look to do whatever best we can do.” Rajat Patidar said.
Suryakumar Yadav admitted that he was happy to bat first in Raipur. The MI stand-in skipper confirmed that the visitors will play with the same defeat.
“We are pretty confident to bat first. Big ground, black soil wicket and runs on the board will always be pressure on the other team. We are going with the same team. We have always had a good chat around the bowling. It`s harsh on the bowlers. We keep trying to improve and get better each day.” Suryakumar Yadav said.
Confirmed Playing XI of both teams:
Mumbai Indians (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton(w), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI): Virat Kohli, Jacob Bethell, Rajat Patidar(c), Jitesh Sharma(w), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, Rasikh Salam Dar
