The Gujarat Titans were reeling at 45/3 at the end of the powerplay while chasing Mumbai Indians’ target of 199. The hosts lost all three of their top-order batters early, with Jasprit Bumrah returning to form with the ball for MI.
Jasprit Bumrah struck on the very first ball of the innings after being handed the opening over, dismissing Sai Sudarshan. The left-hander played the shot too early and offered a simple catch at short cover. This was Bumrah’s first wicket of IPL 2026.
Hardik Pandya struck soon after, removing the dangerous Jos Buttler. The MI captain trapped the English batter leg before wicket, giving his side a strong start. Shubman Gill departed shortly thereafter, leaving the Gujarat Titans in deeper trouble.
GT will now hope that Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips can steady the innings with a crucial partnership to keep the chase alive.
For MI, Bumrah’s remaining overs, along with their spin attack, will be key in sealing the match.
Earlier, the Mumbai Indians posted 199/5 in their 20 overs against the Gujarat Titans. The visitors had a shaky start but recovered strongly, thanks to a brilliant century by Tilak Varma.
MI were struggling at 46/3 at the end of the powerplay. Kagiso Rabada caused early damage, picking up three wickets to give GT a strong start. The South African pacer dismissed Quinton de Kock, Malewar, and Suryakumar Yadav, finishing with figures of 3/33 in his four overs.
Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma then stitched together a crucial partnership to rebuild the innings. Dhir scored 45 off 32 balls, while Tilak Varma was the standout performer with a superb 101 off just 45 deliveries. This marked his maiden IPL century.
