PBKS got off to a fast start as they raced to 107 runs at the halfway stage of their innings. Opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 38 runs in 28 balls, while his opening partner Priyansh Arya scored a quickfire 29 runs in 11 balls.
PBKS enjoyed the powerplay, racing to 65/1 in the first six overs. The Punjab openers continued their fine form with the bat, dominating the RR bowling attack.
For RR, Yash Raj Punia was the best bowler, taking a wicket for 21 runs in his 2 overs.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Riyan Parag was happy to bowl first. The RR captain confirmed two changes to the playing XI, with Bishnoi and Hetymer dropped from the team.
“We`ll be bowling first. Looks like a pretty good wicket, but there was a little cloud cover and a little shower as well, so a little bit of moisture in the start, so we`re trying to extract that, get a few early wickets, and yeah, hopefully chase it down.” Parag said.
Shreyas Iyer said that he would have liked to bowl first, too. The PBKS skipper was delighted with his team`s record chase in the last match and hoped that their unbeaten run continued in this match.
“We would have loved to bowl first as well because I asked one of our team members, and he told me that the wicket was basically covered for a couple of days due to bad weather, but other than that, I personally feel that any time you bat or bowl, it`s a great challenge and all of us are pretty proactive irrespective of the decision of the toss. Suryansh Shedge and Lockie come in. All the individuals have certain goals. So far it`s going well.” Shreyas Iyer said.
Confirmed Playing XI for both teams:
Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel(w), Riyan Parag(c), Donovan Ferreira, Ravindra Jadeja, Dasun Shanaka, Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Brijesh Sharma, Yash Raj Punja
Punjab Kings (Playing XI): Prabhsimran Singh(w), Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer(c), Cooper Connolly, Suryansh Shedge, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
