The Mumbai Indians beat the Gujarat Titans by 99 runs to get a much-needed victory. MI ended their four-match losing streak and got 2 points as they aim to mount a comeback this season.
Chasing 199 runs, GT never got going and struggled from the first ball. Bumrah got a wicket on the opening ball of the innings, and MI dominated from the off. Ashwani took 4 wickets to seal a big win for the visitors.
Speaking after the defeat, Shubman Gill said that his team`s middle overs bowling was poor. The GT skipper further added that he is confident that his team can come back and be competitive again.
“Honestly, I think we gave away too many runs in the middle overs. On a wicket like that, I think 160-170 was a par score. But I think there are a lot of learnings for us from this game. I mean, a small hiccup, but now we’ve got a couple of games on the road, so hopefully we’outside the leg-stump come back on the winning side again. I think the wicket was a little bit on the slower side. I don’t think we hit the right areas. The length ball wasn’t coming on as well, some balls were coming, some weren’t, and some were keeping low. I think we could have hit that length in the middle overs a bit more consistently, which we were not able to. I think it was pretty similar. If at all, it could have gotten a little bit better because I think there was a bit more dew when we were batting.” Shubman Gill said.
Hardik Pandya relieved after a much-needed win
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was relieved to finally get a win under his belt. MI were on a 4-match losing streak coming into the match against the Gujarat Titans.
“Very important. It is always challenging to go away and win. Also, Ahmedabad has not been a happy ground for Mumbai Indians, so very satisfying. The talent Tilak has he does not need much advice. It was about time he comes and delivers. It was much needed for the group, for Tilak and Mumbai Indians. Quite fascinating, I have seen many people asking why Jassi hasn`t bowled with the new ball, but he hasn`t bowled with the new ball, maybe 7 or 8 times, so it is not a Hardik Pandya problem, it is Jassi being special. It was about bowling in the right areas and bowling with a right intent. Really amazing by the youngsters, so fielding had to click, special mention to Naman as well.” Hardik Pandya said.
